The Desinganad Backwaters Marathon (DBM) in Kollam is a celebrated event that showcases the scenic beauty and cultural heritage of the region. The marathon takes participants through the oxygen-rich areas of Kollam, alongside the picturesque Ashtamudi Backwaters, and past historical landmarks reminiscent of Portuguese influence. Runners also get to experience the enchanting Thangassery Lighthouse, the vibrant fishing hamlets at Vadi, and the majestic views of the Arabian Sea.

The DBM is organized by the Soles of Kollam Runners Club, which was established in 2017 with the goal of promoting healthy living through running. The club has successfully fostered a culture of running in Kollam, adding over 250 members who engage in daily health-related activities.
